課程概述

This course is designed to introduce NTU students to university-level English. We will continue to read and discuss a series of texts featuring short stories and proses written by award-winning American writers of Asian ancestries including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian and Filipino. Students will have the chance to apply the language skills they have learned through ten listening transcriptions, two essays, one individual presentation and several in-class discussions, and near the end of this course, through a group presentation in the form of a short play. Students are expected to attend regularly, to contribute with compassion and creativity, and to show commitment to course assignments and group activities. We will look into issues of memory and identity by examining how Asian American experiences gain meaning in contemporary culture and how the selected texts resonate with aspects of our lives.
